8 – The Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup is a 3-day golf competition pitting Europe vs. The United States staged every two years with the inaugural matches held in 1990. Karsten Solheim from the PING Golf Co. wanted Professional Women Golfers to have their own arena for an international competition similar to the Men’s Ryder Cup. Every year it has grown bigger and grander until now it is a true spectacle that Val and I have gotten to experience in person three times in the United States: in Carmel, IN – Chicago, IL – and Des Moines, IA. Getting the chance to watch one overseas in Scotland was such an amazing opportunity!

There are five parts that always make a Solheim Cup unbelievable and memorable:

  • The Venue
  • The Players / Competition
  • The Spectators and Team Fanatics
  • The Weather
  • The Defining Moment
