We figured Scotland in September would have some cool days, probably windy, and we could expect it to rain a couple of days. Yes, this event showed that you must be prepared for absolutely everything – and we were ONLY the spectators – the players still had to swing!
The afternoon of the Opening Ceremony was sunny, hardly a breeze – just as the “Chamber of Commerce” would have scripted it for the TV audience in Scotland and back in the States. But on the competition days, we wore many layers – I think Val had as many as eight. We had under layers, over layers, gloves, and thankfully, earbags!
One afternoon it was as windy as it had been at Crail, and another day for a few hours, we had intermittent rains – oh, what a sport! We were each allowed only one small backpack-sized bag, which enabled us to make these choices: BRING IT – BUY IT – WEAR IT – CARRY IT – or SIT ON IT. Good luck! On occasion, Janis and Erika would stop into the Ping Pavilion for a short hiatus using their premier tickets, but they too spent a good deal of time out braving the elements.
Even with the crazy weather and before the defining moment, we loved the entire experience!
